Partial-interval recording divides the observation into short intervals and scores the behavior as present if it occurred at any time during the interval. It tends to overestimate the true prevalence of behavior.
It is commonly used for behaviors that are difficult to count precisely, and suits behavior reduction targets because overestimation errs on the cautious side.
